Voice quality setting (VQS) gained attention in the 1980’s and early 1990’s but subsequently lost ground. Recent research undergirds its importance for intelligibility and demonstrates the effectiveness of VQS teaching strategies. After reviewing the components of VQS, the presenters report on strategies used to teach it in ESL classrooms.
