The baffling boundary between profanity and acceptable speech confuses language learners. Profanity is widespread, but still not acceptable in many situations. This uncomfortable but necessary discussion uses a template to rank the degrees of offensiveness of a word, and to apply it in determining suitable language in workplace and classroom.
