Joe McVeigh is an independent consultant and author based in Middlebury, Vermont. In his youth, he taught for ten years at the American Culture and Language program at Cal State L.A., and in the graduate ESL program at Caltech. He later served as the Academic Coordinator at the USC Language Academy. Over the course of his career he has worked with students from more than 45 countries. In 1998 he returned to his roots on the east coast to work at the Center for Educational Technology at Middlebury College in Vermont. He has lived and worked overseas in China, India, Hungary, Chile, the UK, and Saudi Arabia and has worked as an English language specialist for the US State Department in Oman, the UAE and Spain. His co-authored books include Tips for Teaching Culture: Practical Approaches to Intercultural Communication from Pearson and two books in the Q: Skills for Success series from Oxford University Press. Joe works part time as a site visit representative for CEA: the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the TESOL International Association and a past chair of TESOL’s Intensive English Programs Interest Section. He gives workshops, presentations, and plenaries at conferences in the U.S. and around the world and works as a consultant with organizations to strengthen English language teaching and learning. He holds a BA in English and American Literature from Brown University and an MA in TESOL from Biola University. More information at www.joemcveigh.org/about.
